I'm attending GDC again this year (third in a row!) but this time I will be more involved. I registered for a hack-a-thon sponsored by Radisson Hotels: http://www.radisson.com/hackathon and will be giving a 3-minute presentation for my project in "late afternoon" next Tuesday.
Due to contest rules, I cannot release the demo prior to the presentation. And in the interest of not getting disqualified, I won't be posting nightly progress updates as I have with past projects. Instead, I'll release the "final" concept after the contest concludes. This will also serve as my first 1GAM, as mentioned in the last post.
That said, I can tell you that I've been focused solely on art for this one. I'm using a "super pixelated"/micro-game style that is popular in indy games right now. I think it's so popular because it's relatively fast to make decent looking sprites when they are artificially limited by size and color. It makes the viewer use their imagination a bit (eg. my characters have no eyes, nose, or mouth) which is a tactic championed by Dwarf Fortress.
So expect a low-definition hotel sim prototype sometime next week!
